Sonoras Mil´s music can be initially defined as “tropical -experimental pop with a lot of groove”, evoking sounds from different parts of the world. However, beyond labels, Sonoras Mil is a musical trip to places that do not exist but that are still familiar, almost intimate.
In Sonoras Mil ́s music you can find elements of funk, reggae, dub, rock, psychedelic cumbia, salsa, tribal, latin and electronica, all assembled in a pop and yet alternative format.
The first album of the same name, produced by the Grammy award music producer Christian Castagno (Iggy Pop, Bomba Estéreo, Systema Solar) in Minca, Colombia, came to the world in March 2015.
The music of Sonoras Mil has been played on Radiónica, Colombia ́s most emblematic alternative music station; in LAUD Estéreo and has also been featured on independent radios in México (Radio Universidad de Guadalajara 103.3 FM), KEXP (El Sonido) in Seattle, Radio Tam Tam in Belgium and California (88.9FM/stream: http://kuci.org). Additionally, Sonoras Mil was also selected to participate in the Bogotá Music Market 2015 2016 2017, winner of state grant FUGA 2017, FIMU Festival 2016 (Belfort, France), Yaveria Festival 2016, Festival Iberoamericano de Teatro 2016 and Mapas Music Market 2017 (Tenerife, Canary Islands) among others. But most notably, Sonoras Mil’s first record was included by Noisey Magazine in its list of Colombia ́s 15 most remarkable albums of 2015.
Sonoras Mil ́s live show is intense and organic. Performing on stage with five musicians from the alternative music scene of Bogotá, Cali and Pereira, the band blends the power of tropical percussion and drum beats with electro synths, dub-salsa bass lines, ambient-psychedelic guitars and sweet, catchy and hallucinating vocal harmonies.
In this moment, Sonoras Mil is in the process of producing its second studio album to be released in May 2018.
